This is Maryann. My friend and midwife, pure strength and magic. This is who I reached out to halfway through a pandemic pregnancy, when I was told I would have to deliver my baby alone in a hospital. She told me she would come. She told me we would navigate this together. She told me I was not alone.
This is the person who didn't just check my baby's heartbeat, she taught me how to use a fetoscope over a video appointment. She is the friend, amongst others, who held my tears and my fears over a screen and reminded me of my strength and the joy to come. She always made me feel like she had time for me.
When I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes, she was the person on the phone with me as I wandered the grocery store aisles trying to figure out food and supplements. She is the midwife who, when I was told my body could not deliver my own baby and I should schedule an induction, and then a cesarean birth, she told me my body could do it, and I believed her. Her help is the reason I could navigate all the appointments, all the statistics, and all the fear from those doctors.
Maryann is the midwife who flew across a continent during Covid to live with me for weeks and prepare for my baby’s arrival. Maryann is the midwife who created the most competent birth team I could have imagined.
Maryann is the midwife who, realizing baby was coming very very quickly, kept the entire room calm. Maryann is the friend whose hands first touched my precious child. Hers are the hands who unwrapped the umbilical cord around his tiny neck. I saw Maryann’s face before I saw his, and I will never forget her face smiling at him. Maryann handed me my perfect baby with the grace of a midwife who witnesses the space between worlds.
She is the midwife who answered my calls in the middle of those first vulnerable nights, when she was exhausted, just to sit and eat prunes together and answer my lactation questions. She is the friend who made sitz baths, and the midwife who made rose baths. I understand now that the line between my friend and my midwife is not clear to me at all, and maybe that is in the definition of community.
Maryann is my midwife, my friend, and she is also my family.

I cannot recommend Sarah highly enough. When I was in labor at three in the morning, it was Sarah I texted first, and she was there within minutes. Before she arrived, the lights were bright, there were medics and residents and students in the room, and the triage nurse was not really listening to me; everything felt rushed, medicalized, and harsh. As soon as Sarah crossed the threshold, she took control, kicking excess people off, dimming the lights, and detaching the monitor. Under her calm, collected, and confident leadership, I could finally relax. She worked closely with my doula, obstetrician, and nurse to create a magical experience. Unlike my doula, who talked way too much (LOL), she only said what was necessary. Her vibe was immaculate. Unlike the birth of my first child, this birth went exactly how I wanted, and I credit Sarah with making that possible. After the delivery, my nurse wheeled me to postpartum and said, "I have never witnessed such a magical birth. Thanks for letting me be a part of that." My wish is for everyone to have a birth like that, and with Sarah, you can.

Siendo sincera recomiendo todos los servicios. Aunque no haya solicitado todos los servicios confío en que Marla y Maryann te brindarán el mejor servicio. Ambas están super preparadas y siempre dispuestas ayudar con la mayor sensibilidad y respeto posible. No puedo imaginar mi parto de ninguna otra manera. Puedo decir que fue la experiencia de parto que tanto soñé. I truly had an amazing experience. The care and communication throughout the whole process was excellent, and it was such a refreshing change to be treated with respect, kindness, and autonomy compared to my interactions in other medical settings during pregnancy. They are knowledgeable and provided comprehensive and evidence-based information whenever I had questions. If you want a positive and empowering birth experience I can’t recommend them highly enough.

Maryann is amazing! She brings an effortless calm and grace to the powerful experience of birthing. Maryann guided me through my second pregnancy, home birth and postpartum period. Her house visits were always thorough, unrushed and full of great advice. I loved that if I threw an oddball question at her she was willing to find experts to bring me back answers and options. Maryann’s birth classes were fantastic and she has amazing hands and techniques for applying counter-pressure during labor. On the big day, I felt fully supported and in great hands. Definitely 10/10 recommend working with Maryann. I feel forever grateful and connected to her for helping bring my boy safely into this world and for all the love, care and support before and after.

My son Theodore was born in late January 2023, and I'm so glad I chose a home birth with Maryann Colella. I am grateful there are competent midwives like her who make home births a realistic, safe option. I am a healthy woman in my early 30s with no pregnancy complications, so a midwife was the ideal birth attendant.
I prefer the midwifery model of care for its holistic approach to health. In my opinion, doctors rely too heavily on drugs and tests. When I told my OB I'd had a persistent cough, he wrote me a prescription. In contrast, Maryann sent me a long list of supplements, teas, and foods to help boost my immune system naturally. During our prenatal visits, which all lasted over an hour, she focused on my mental and emotional health, diet, and exercise, as well as physical health. I felt cared for so much more deeply than in any check up with a doctor.
Maryann has the training and experience necessary for a safe home birth. She always encouraged me to make my own decisions; I was free to do things my way. When I wanted guidance, she was ready with a wealth of knowledge and diverse experience to provide the help I needed. During the pushing stage of my labor, Maryann discovered my baby's head was stuck behind my pubic bone. We had tried many different pushing positions but had not made progress. Then, without any equipment or instruments, Maryann was able to maneuver my baby into a better position, and he was born a few minutes later.
If I were to birth in a hospital, I worried about being pressured into unnecessary medical interventions. I knew it would be hard to advocate for myself while in the vulnerable state of labor. I didn't experience the stress of going to a hospital, worrying about covid tests, and being in an unfamiliar environment with people I didn't know. At home, I knew exactly who would be present: two midwives, a doula, and my husband. I trusted all of these people to help me have the experience I desired. I believe the tranquility of being at home contributed to the rapid, smooth progression of my labor.
Theodore is now a thriving, 14 pound two-month-old. He gained six pounds in two months! Breastfeeding went smoothly for us right from the start. In my opinion this is mostly due to our drug- and intervention-free birth process.
Thank you, Maryann, for guiding me through such a positive pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience. I hope to work with you again if and when I have a second baby!

I can't even begin to explain what Sarah means to our family. The comfort we felt with her was immediate and she honestly became a friend that we knew we could count on. The level of care and kindness she exhibits towards her patients is undeniable. The day I went into labor we were extremely unprepared and dealt with alot of unexpected news. The minute Sarah arrived all of the anxiety went away and she truly, truly advocates for her patients and what works for them. There is no pressure and she wants you to wholly feel at ease. My husband and I could not have done this the way we did without her. We will forever remember our first child being born and how she was apart of this our journey, allowing us to feel calm, comfortable, and fully being in the moment.
